Sherwood Park – Coal Mining Risk Assessment and Geotechnical Assessment

2025 to ongoing – Midlands, UK

Geotechnical Support for a Large Commercial Development

Ground Projects (GPC) are providing support for an industrial and logistics project in the Midlands. The project entails the construction of warehouses of up to 40,000 m² area, with associated infrastructure, and a landscape mound comprising over 250,000 m³ of fill material.

To date, GPC have performed preliminary settlement calculations, undertaken utility damage assessment and provided a coal mining risk assessment.

As part of the scheme, a landscape mound is envisaged to satisfy the earthwork material balance and to provide a visual and auditory barrier. The underlying geology comprises coal bearing strata, with a coal seam encroaching on the footprint of the planned mound. GPCL were able to provide the client with a detailed coal mining risk assessment report.
